The library used RFID technology for intelligent management

RFID is Radio Frequency Identification which is An application technology combining automatic identification technology and radio frequency communication technology, it is an non-contact automatic recognition technology.In recent years, RFID has attracted the attention of libraries at home and abroad.

RFID is mainly composed of Tag, Reader and related Application System.RFID is a kind of network system that uses electromagnetic wave spectrum to transmit specific identification information in a non-contact, non-visual and highly reliable way.The application of RFID system in the field of library management has updated the traditional barcode technology and security mechanism, accelerated the process of library management automation, and also provided a hardware platform for the construction of digital library.

Management automation

RFID "intelligent collection system" includes a series of automatic management systems such as librarian service system, chip conversion system, self-service book borrowing system, self-service book returning system, collection inventory system and channel investigation system.Each book is tagged with an RFID tag, and an RFID reader is installed at the library exit.When someone leaves the library with an RFID-tagged book or other media that hasn't been checked, the RFID reader will sound an alarm.If someone tries to take a book without an alarm, the library can still track it and put it back where it was.

Service model advanced

(1) After the readers enter the library, they can search the books on the self-service equipment.It is self-service. Readers place the selected books in front of the automatic machine and pay their own "all-in-one card". The machine will scan the books automatically and print out the receipt.When the book is returned, as long as the book is placed in the "drop off" of the automatic return box, the system will automatically recognize the book and process it.In the process of borrowing and returning books, the staff just cost a little time to intervene.

(2)The counter workstation can handle the book borrow and return at the same time, and can also  handle other more complex works, such as: renewal, fines, and so on.

(3)The self-service inquiry system outside the library is available 24 hours a day.It is very convenient to read electronic books and periodicals and to search electronic materials.

(5) Collection inventory, librarians can simply holding a collection system  lateral movement on the shelf can be read, check inventory time is very short, The original need a few people for a few months of workload, a person half a day can finished. at the same time, It is also easy to find books that are not on the shelves and in disorder, greatly save manpower and material resources, thus the employees have more time to help the reader or add more services.

RFID electronic tags have more advantages than bar codes

(1)Data can be updated: the bar code can not be changed after printing, RFID electronic tags have no limit times to add, modify and delete the information stored in the tag.

( 2 )Convenient for data discrimination and reading: bar code reader just can scan at the condition of making the scanning light source irradiation on the bar code at a very close range and no object blocking , RFID tags can transmit signals as long as at the radio wave range.

( 3 )Large data storage capacity: the 1D bar code is 50 bytes, and the maximum capacity of the 2D code can be stored from 2 to 3000 bytes;RFID tags can have a maximum capacity of several megabytes.

( 4 )Reusable: the bar code ends with the end of the product life;RFID tags can be reused for their data can be updated.

( 5 ) Fast scanning speed, can read several data at the same time: bar code reader can only read a single bar code data one time;RFID tag identifier can identify 5 tags at the same time.

( 6 )Good security: RFID tags are read with password protection, high security protection measures to make it difficult to be forged.

( 7 )Durability: bar codes made of traditional paper or plastic are sometimes damaged by rain or humidity and then difficult to be identified.RFID has the characteristics of being reused for hundreds of thousands or even millions of times, and its material can also be placed in a relatively harsh environment, so it has more durability than bar code and lower natural cost.

( 8) Small size: the traditional magnetic bar code is limited by the size, not easily embedded in the smaller items.on the other hand, RFID can hide its tiny size in a variety of objects.
